- Appointments follow active and successful 2019 for AURELIUS’ UK investment team
London, April 20, 2020 – AURELIUS Equity Opportunities (“AURELIUS”), the pan-European, mid-market investor, today announces the appointment of three new team members to its growing London-based investment team. James Sharp joins as Principal and Kayan Kanga and Prakash Rajani as Investment Associates, bringing the total investment team in London to 10.
All three new joiners will work with UK Managing Director Tristan Nagler and an investment team who have undertaken a number of AURELIUS’ recent equity investments. Since its inception in 2014, the AURELIUS UK investment team has grown year-on-year and this continued expansion demonstrates that the UK remains a key market for AURELIUS.
James Sharp, who joins AURELIUS as Principal, brings over 15 years of experience across multiple sectors, as well as significant restructuring expertise. James joins from special situations private equity and debt investor ESO Capital, where he was a Director and managed a portfolio of investment positions, taking a number of investee company board positions. James is a qualified Insolvency Practitioner and will bolster AURELIUS’ investment capability ahead of an anticipated increase in the number of attractive investment opportunities in the distressed market. Prior to joining ESO Capital in 2016, James was a Director at the investment firm of a large family office where he undertook a 12 month turnaround of a listed investee company subsidiary. James began his career at PwC and KPMG, working across both firms’ restructuring practices, and holds both the ICAEW ACA and JIEB qualifications.
Kayan Kanga and Prakash Rajani both join AURELIUS as Investment Associates. Kayan joins from PwC where he was a Corporate Finance Senior Associate and, prior to that, spent over three years in the firm’s Transaction Services team. Prior to joining AURELIUS, Prakash was an Assistant Manager in KPMG’s London-based Transactions Services team, as well as spending time in the firm’s Corporate Finance department. Both Kayan and Prakash hold the ICAEW ACA qualification.
Tristan Nagler, Managing Director of AURELIUS in the UK, commented: “The challenging macro-economic environment means it is more important than ever for firms like ours to have the right expertise, such as the ability to execute complex transactions and manage challenging situations. As such, we are delighted to welcome James, Kayan and Prakash to AURELIUS. Their appointments follow several years of continued growth of our London-based team and reflect our ongoing confidence in the UK market as a source for attractive investment opportunities.”
The recent deal activities of AURELIUS’ UK investment team include the acquisition of Armstrong Ceiling Solutions, the UK-headquartered Armstrong ceiling tiles and grids businesses, from Knauf International, which closed in March, and the acquisition of BT Fleet Solutions (since renamed Rivus Fleet Solutions), the UK’s number one commercial fleet management business, from BT Group plc in August 2019. In June 2019, AURELIUS announced its largest exit to date following the exit of Solidus Solutions, a producer of sustainable fibre-based packaging solutions. The sale to Centerbridge Partners LP saw AURELIUS achieve a 16x money multiple.
